Well I have to start with 721 photos - that was the number of snaps I managed to take for my first assignment with Graham and Lynn! To say they were a little shocked is an understatement.

I began my love affair with photography using a Canon Sureshot digital point and shoot camera and wanted to move onto a “proper” camera, but as I had had a SLR when I was in my teens and never learnt how to use it, I really wanted to get the most from the DSLR I was going to buy. Hence my journey with South West Photography School started with the basics and grew as time went by.

Sitting waiting for the judges to look at your panel is scary, especially when they say no to 2 of your photos, but listening to their advice, I felt confident that I would be able to retake them quickly. Six weeks later I was back and the judges they say YES!!

As with any journey there are ups and downs, but by sticking to the courses and using the monthly Forums (4 of my panel pictures came from the Forums), I can look back and say I have enjoyed myself. Although, Lynn and Graham seem to have a few more worry lines :)

A Canon 450D was my first DSLR and after a couple of years of encouragement from Lynn and Graham I progressed to a Canon 60D, which is the camera I used for my LRPS panel.

It is so easy to download your pictures and leave them on the computer never to be seen again - but when you are on the hunt for the ‘Royal Photographic Society’s distinctions Licentiateship level, you get to print out your photos and see them in all their glory - or warts and all!
